RNS:: Hi-Launcher reviews by PalmGear customers

PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
I have used other launchers but I now have removed all except this one. It is so configurable I couldn't believe it. I have just found out how to make the menu use smaller font, and wow! I can now get so much more information on the screen. This is the ONLY laucher that I need. I have used this on a Treo600, Zire72, Tungsten T5, and a LifeDrive. This is a great piece of software. Good job!

This is a must-have application for my Treo 650. It saves me button pushing and taps -- and TIME to get to my favorite apps and system information. I started using it with the Treo 600 and recommend it to my clients with Treo devices. Palm should include this in their "as delivered" software package.

I have two other launchers and didn't think I'd need another, but once I configured this one (expect to spend an hour or two setting up and fine-tuning) I would not want to be without it. Intuitive, very customizable, stable on my Tungsten T5, and fast fast fast. Unlike Aardquick it does not cover your application and is easy to cancel out of; unlike HBX it lets you get to everything from one button; unlike McPhling it gives both "most recent" and all other apps, not just favorites. I do agree with the previous reviewer that user should be allowed to choose two or more launch methods (e.g., hard button and silk screen icon). I'm seriously impressed.

Simply The Best. This was one of the first programs I bought when I got my PDA little did I know how lucky I was to have found it first. Over time I have heard about this or that launcher so I decided to try them , I was really disappointed by them never once was I even tempted to buy any of them . Hi-Launcher does what its supposed to do and does it well.

Some people "get it" and some don't, these guys get it! This application is everything it needs to be (functional), without trying to be everything to everyone (agendus). Palm should fire their designers and put these guys in charge. Encore, encore.

ADDITIONAL COMMENT: I use this on a Palm m515 (OS version 4.1). The only thing that I can think of that would make it even better is an option to see the weather forecast for my zip code on the intial screen (perhaps just like one of the "status" tools like time, memory, etc...). This could possibly be done in conjunction with Weather Manager ....... which would then allow for weather updates both wirelessly and via hot sync. Well done though!

Excellent launcher that continues to get awesome facelifts!! I'm trashing my [other] oversized launcher for this gem. I'm sick of these other bulky launchers taking my money ever time they add the smallest little feature. This one looks to be a keeper!!!

Let me start by saying that this is possibly my favourite app for palm, having a lot of programs, a small launcher for my essential apps is, well, essential. While i will not go as far as Cygig Storm Raven in my complaints, even though some of his ideas seem like they would be nice, i must concur with his stement about hi-launcher going white after about 10 launches. Althought i have no idea why this occurs, im wiling to live with it, simply because hi-launcer is such a great program. While Cygig Storm Raven is looking for perfection, im looking for somehting that makes life easier :)

Excellent apps!!!!!!!!!! And very good in reminding me about the newest update version of Hi-Launcher by sending me an email for free upgrade. Worth the value!

It's excellent! It makes all the applications that I cannot otherwise configure to the buttons available through an easily accessible menu. For example, I have a Sony Clie SJ-22, and with Hi-Launcher. I can now put the Hot Sync command as one of the items on the main pop-up menu. On the Clie, a nice touch is that the Hi-Launcher menu can be called up by pressing the Back button under the Jog Dial, even though I had set the trigger to be the Home silk-screen button. Take note! The infinitely configurable menu in terms of color, size, order, etc., will make you spend a lot of time designing the final look. I did, but enjoyed the time investment. The end result is a Palm that is much, much easier to use.

Really nice app... I usually don't register apps right away since I like to play around with them and really make sure this is the one I want (especially when there are other choices available with similar functions). But I registered Hi-Launcher within a day of downloading the trial. (to be truthful: the nag screen really slows you down! ;) Aside from offering some incredible functionality and customization, this is definitely one of those programs that has a great "feel" to it. Hard to explain, but it just makes sense in how it works, how it's designed, etc. Lots of fiddling to do, and some might find that a distraction. But the tremendous flexibility all the options offer really doesn't constitute function bloat, IMO. Hi-Launcher simply allows the user to get his/her menus *exactly* the way s/he wants. There are some really smart features for designing the menus, too, like "Copy Style" and "Paste Style" - so you can decide on how you want a menu item to look and then paste the style only to as many other items as you want. Very nice, well thought-out application. The only negative I can come up with is the inability to directly set the highlight/selected color. You can adjust this indirectly because it's based on the background and text color you select for the menu item. But on occasion, I found that the highlight color wasn't to my liking. I have used a number of different launchers, including customized button mapping utilities. I finally got tired of trying to remember how I had customized the mappings and went with McPhling to launch apps. Think of Hi-Launcher as McPhling to the next level.

And you thought the PocketPC was the best at multitasking. Not anymore! This falls into my list of essential apps. The only complaint I have is that the recent apps don't show you the icon of the app they will take you to, creating a bit of guesswork. But besides that, it's wonderful.

I've been using Hi-Launcher for quite some time, and have been thrilled with it! It did take some creativity on my part to make things look pretty, but it was fully functioning as soon as I started adding items to the menus. I cannot recommend it highly enough. And the support these folks offer is AMAZING! Very impressive!!

Hi-Launcher is terrific. It is capable, flexible, and configurable. It does't overreach by trying to do too many things. You can configure menus most any way you can imagine, though it is a little tedious if you have lots of apps to put on menus. The support is terrific, too. I use Hi-Launcher and EasyLaunch. Between those two, I never have to bring up the Applications launcher. Even my wife likes it! There are a few things I'd like to see in Hi=Launcher which relate to configuring the menus. It would have been helpful if Hi-Launcher had an option to import all applications, perhaps from a list that permitted selecting those to import and those to skip. Then, the ability to drag a menu item from one place to another, including among (sub)menus, would make configuration far easier. Dragging among menus would require drastic changes to editing menus, so perhaps a menu clipboard scheme could be used. That is, drag from the menu being editing onto a clipboard/folder icon, then, after moving to the destination menu, drag the menu item(s) from the clipboard/folder icon to the new menu. (You could just use copy/paste and the regular clipboard, of course.) While there are some features I'd like in Hi-Launcher, it definitely earns five stars now. The previous review (by Kyle Agronick) strikes me as unfair. While the features he requested would make Hi-Launcher better, I don't think the lack of those features justifies a score of three stars. That review also questioned the price of Hi-Launcher saying it was almost as much as a "full" launcher. Silly me, but I thought it was a full launcher. Sure, it doesn't open in its own screen; it's better since it opens over the current screen. It may lack a few of the features and certainly lacks the shiny skins of the better launchers, but it does what it should and nothing more.

I can't say enough good about this application! I've had it for a couple of years now, and it is one of, let's say five of my "must install immediately upon a hard reset or purchase of a new PDA" titles! Absolutely wonderful!
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
I would give it 10 stars if I could its fast , easy , blessedly not bloated , I tried almost ever launcher listed at Palm Gear , I sort of felt like goldie locks until I found Hi-Launcher , Very Well Done
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
This Rocks!!! Nothing to it. Simply set an App and every time you open the menu, you have fast access to any thing on your palm... IT'S WORTH THE MONEY!!!
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
Look - just buy this launcher now, and forget all the rest. If you want the fastest possible way to launch and switch between applications, nothing else comes close. I mean, not even in the same league. Add in the fact that it is totally configurable and the competition is completely flattened. I promise that if you use this launcher it will transform the way you use your Palm. You won't regret it.
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
There is so much to say about this well developed app, that I just want to stress - if you own a PalmOS device, you should own this littl' beauty! Sony and PalmOne didn't even think of this one. If you're new to Palms or are a power user - this will totally change the way you use your Palm. If anyone finds fault with this pgm, know it's Palm Envy, that they didn't think of and/or create it or don't understand Multi-Tasking. What's not to like about being able to access any app at anytime from any other app and having complete control over the way you can design the app itself??? I recommend setting a swipe from (Home to Menu) for activation, and from (Menu to Home) for the last app used. Other launchers are great for launching from the main screen but none offer the multi-tasking features like Hi-Launcher. Do yourself a favor and get this asap and you will be one happy palmaroy! I also suggest SnapCalc, freeware, for a complete multi-tasking environment. BottomLine - any Palm Owner - III to T3 will find this an asset in personal and business productivity. Enjoy Your Day, PalmFX

I love this app! It is defenitely a great SHORTCUT launcher. I say that because I use it ONLY as a Minaiture launcher on top of a Fully configerable launcher like ZLauncher, MegaLauncher, or YiShow. Hi-Launcher has a very small foot print and is VERY customizable. Looks good too! It would be nice if it had Font Choices (like Times Roman or Lucida, etc) and Choices to Slant the lettering also. Or if you could also choose WHAT Color you want the highlite to be (like when you scroll through the apps). I would also like to see choices for WHAT SIZE you want lettering to be other then BOLD or NOT BOLD option. Other then that this is a Great Launcher. I give this 10 stars! Great Job RNS:: :)

Excellent. Like that I can disable the icons to keep things clean and simple. Added bonus: activate the Hi-Launcher launcher window and keep looking...eventually you'll see a small bug seemingly run across the window (had me fooled for a moment - thought my Clie was home to "real" bugs!).
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
I love this launcher! Though I don't consider it THE best launcher (as compared to ZLauncher or Launcher X). I do however consider it THE BEST ADDITIONAL Launcher in COMBINATION WITH ZLauncher. This combination just blows my mind! I use Hi-Launcher as a short cut launcher which gives me the additional features that ZLauncher does NOT have. Both together though are great! I can't wait to see more updates of this great application! I also can't wait to see what more this author comes up with :) I give this app 7 Stars!

Simple, elegant, incredibly useful. Must have!
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
This is by far and away the best launcher I have used. Very lightweight, totally configurable, fast and completely stable. Now with memory card support I could ditch my other launcher. In fact I almost never use it now. I used Silver Screen (very big, lovely to look at...) Launcher X and even Launch'em. None compare, except that stubs created in Launcher X allows aps stored on memory cards to sync with their desktop component. Perhaps this feature could be incorporated into Hi-Launcher: then I would give it 6 stars!

Fantastic app! Great launcher! Very impressive customer service from the developer. All around - 100%.

This is a real great program and solves one of Tapwave Zodiac's biggest problems: Not being able to launch another program without going back into the launcher. It's extremely flexible and has some nice display options. Price is definately right for the functionality it adds. Now that it supports running programs off a memory card can't think of a real flaw.
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
Without any doubt, this is the best launcher available for the Palm Tungsten T3.
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
Hi-Launcher is an excellent launcher. Completely stable and customizable on OS 5.x and has excellent features. Allows for incredibly quick access to applications placed in custom made menu, plus other features such as HOTSYNC etc... Can be used in conjuction with any launcher. I would give it a four star feature rating because memory card support is needed but the developers say they are working on for the next version. All I use my other Launcher for now is file management.
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
Excellent program. Had one small problem with it, but the author was quick to reply to my bug report and it was resolved quickly (my fault :)
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
Very usefull app! There are so many way to custom it! -To Konrad Donaldson: Zlauncher's "specials" shortcuts (for apps moved in ZL directory - read the manual) work with Hi-Launcher (hidden apps too!) -To Jason Moore: the Tungsten has already a shortcut to HOME with the Launch Button on the 5-Way Pad (press and hold 2 secs)

I own a number of third party launchers (can you spell "launcher addiction"?) and Hi-Launcher is one of the best add-on applications for the Tungsten series. I have been using it ever since its release and in fact, removed all other launchers. With minimum memory needs, Hi-Launcher works great with the animation, customised color schemes, & innumerable sub-menus. One major factor to abandon detailed launcher schemes is precious memory (heard of "AvantGo appetite"?). Of course, I have had some minor conflicts between Hi-Launcher & other applications (This is not a problem of Hi-Launcher's creation). When I reported this, the developer sent me 3 emails in 4 days - all trying to debug; can you beat that fantastic customer service? If you do not need to replace the Palm screen interface (icons, fonts), Hi-Launcher is the way to go. I LOVE the "Recently App" option that allows switching between two applications. Unobtrusive and very aesthetic, you will not regret buying this application.

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome. The best alternative I tested (out of a field of 10) for eliminating the need to open the slider on my Tungsten. Not only does Hi-Launcher give you great tiered menus, but it also allows you direct access to many system functions, like 1-touch hotsync, brightness, backlight, off-and-lock, the keyboard, and a crucial deal-breaker: HOME. No other launcher gives you direct access to the native app launcher, so if you want that, you still gotta open the slider! Hi-launcher rules!

Hi-Launcher 1.1 is top-notch upgrade to version 1.0 (which was a good program to start). It is unique and fills in for the functions of McPhling and Slide-Free, with more customization options. Also, the customer service is amazing! I emailed the author about a change and it was implemented (along with other user requests) a day or two later. Worth every penny.
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
WOW, the first version was great it deserved 5 stars, but the 1.1 version is the best, it deserves 10 stars.... thank you very much for making such as wonderful app...... keep those application coming!
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
I really love this application. The support is also very quick and helpful. Highly recimmended!
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
This is simply bar none the most usable, well-written, customizable launcher program for Palm OS I have ever seen! Even the desktop Windows XP start menu is weak compared to what this has to offer! The ability to organize by submenus and color make it so easy to find what you're looking for. Everything you could ask for in a launcher, this has it. Absolutely stable on my Sony Clie. Needs to be in the "Essentials" category in palmgear.com, if not already! This program is going in my shopping cart and ready to check out asap.
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
WOW! What an awesome launcher! I?ve tried out all of the other launchers that people rave about. This one is the one I bought. It looks like Windows Start Menu. It doesn?t take up much hard drive space and comes on the screen using animation. You can set it to disappear after so many seconds also. If you?re in an application and want to go directly to another application, you can stroke the silkscreen and it is almost like Switch Hack. I have all of my MOST USED applications on the menu so I don?t have to scroll down the screen. This makes accessing anything very quick. The text and background colors are customizable. I also have HBX and Butterfly by the same developers. All great programs from RNS::
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
I told you I'd be back! I emailed the developer, and within hours, he had written me back with some solutions as well as a solid fix with an updated version. Now THAT'S customer service! Like promised...more stars! Great idea and great implementation!
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
Looked at Slidefree but came upon Hi-Launcher by chance and purchased it half an hour after I installed it. Superb peice of software as you choose it to be as complex or as simple as you need. Kudos to the developer, best money spent to-date an a PalmOS app! Love it.
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
Have used the program for a couple of days now and can report that it really lives up to expectations! The launcher can be configured like a miniature version of the Windows XP launcher although some may disapprove! Contrary to some postings, all Mem Card programs can be listed in the launcher once program shortcuts are dumped in RAM! Has worked flawlessly on a Clie NR70 with LauncherX and X-Master installed. My hat off to the developers...
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
Absolutely elegant launcher. Wonderful on the Tungsten T. The animation selections add character and make it a much more attractive pop up launcher than any other on the market.
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
This application is superb and I can't wait for the next update, whatever that'll be. What I'd like to see is a way to trigger the applications in the TealTools suite. As is, I have to trigger them via grafitti strokes, and I don't want to clutter up the grafitti area. This is an essential!
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
This program is EXACTLY what I needed in order to gain access to the programs on my Palm Tungsten T without having to open the slider. I have set the Voice Recorder button (with a long press) as the means to launch Hi-Launcher. One press, and away I go. Between Hi-Launcher and the 5-way navigation button, I can launch pretty much all of my programs one-handed. This is a kind of program that I have been looking for, and am I ever glad I found it!
PalmGear (5 of 5)RNS:: logo
wow, this application is great..... nice animations , etc...... it really helps a lot and you can use this app to launch calc, find, tool bar, etc, without having to open the slider.... definitely for a tungsten T user!
